IDEA / アイデア is a quarterly magazine dedicated to graphic design and typography. It was first published in 1953 in Tokyo, Japan by Seibundo Shinkosha Co.,Ltd, and is still going strong today. This copy took a while to find. It features a cover by and the feature on renowned French designer Jacques Nathan-garamond
The cover delivers a striking first impression. Designed by Jacques Nathan-garamond, it balance a graphic immediacy with care and detail of colourful painting up close. Perhaps one of the first IDEA covers to do this. However, although the feature on the designer is interesting, the real highlights of this issue are an article on Belgian Graphic Design, with an incredible spread of logos, and then an article on Jitsuo Hoashi, and his work at Ben Rosen Associates.
