Trademarks & Symbols Volume 2, 1973
This is the second volume of Yasaburo Kuwayama's Trademarks and Symbols. Where the first focused on alphabetical designs this follow up takes a look at "symbolical designs". The primary organisational principle is by shape for those that are abstract, and grouped by figurative relationship for those that are grounded in the concrete. These groupings include Human Figures, Eyes, Tools and Birds, for example, with the abstract being grouped under Circles, Squares and Triangles.
The two volumes of Trademarks and Symbols proceeded and paved the way for Kuwayama's more substantial books Trademarks & Symbols of the World Volumes 1 and 2, which offered a far large set of logos, running to the thousands, and a concerted effort was made to provide complete information on each. Nonetheless, as a historical document, this book remains sought after, perhaps because of the striking colour and composition of logos on the cover.
Title: Trademarks & Symbols
Sub-title: Symbolical Designs
Author: Yasaburo Kuwayama
Condition: Please note, image of a different copy. The one in hand is ex-library, and as such, has a number of stickers applied to it. These are on the spine and on the opening and last pages of the book. This last page also features a classic electronic punch card. A ink stamp has been applied to the top, bottom and leading edge of the book. To preserve the dust jacket, a clear outer has been applied and fixed to the book itself. The dust jacket can't be removed, however, is in good condition. Finally, an additional page has been added at the front that includes a sticker applied by the University library. It's a long list, but does little to really diminish the quality of the book, which is full of wonderful logos.
